Growing up there was a constant thought: "I am so hungry." With this consistent thought combined with my parents deciding my journey would include six younger brothers and sisters, it was apparent early on that the only way I could get fed on a regular basis was to go to work in a restaurant. So at 14 years of age I took the plunge into the restaurant business by working in the school cafeteria (giving up study hall) which in hindsight has been perfect for me.
Education has been gained in the form of snacks and quick meals which have been squeezed into the life of a restaurateur with courses and books as well as learning from experts and mentors whom I am in awe of to this day. Every year for the last 40 years keeps me snacking on the next course (of learning) which helps me sharpen the saw and stay ahead of the game.
After thousands of employees, success stories that includes doubling sales and restaurant turn-arounds, along with dozen years of restaurant ownership (quintupling sales); it is just the beginning. Every few years I look back in retrospect at the amazing people I have worked with and the blessings of success, and wonder how I can top them.
Of course, the Internet and new technology is like candy to a perpetual marketing guy. It offers me even more options to do what I love. Inbound Marketing University and the geniuses at Hubspot offer an opportunity to continue hospitality on a broader scale.
