Build a List with LinkedIn Fast and Easy - Download Now

Social media allows everyone to have a million "friends" or connections.  Building a list with LinkedIn may be easier than creating a website, landing page and creating enticements to complete a form.  There are a few questions which come to mind about the faces you might see in your growing LinkedIn contact list.

Who is that?

I don't recognize the face.  If you do not recognize the face or can't put a name to the face, is that important to you?  If it is not important, then why are they in your network?  As an inventory / name?

Why did the face reach out to me and ask to connect?

Many use the standard dialogue which says:

LINKedinrequest

> Which does not say much and I am inclined to ignore it.  It might be more interesting if the invitation went something like this:

LINKedinrequest2

For those who have me in their network, do they recognize my face?  If not, then why?

If you have not yet done something worth writing about or written about something worth doing, then there is not much chance of being known or remembered.  At the very least share via a LinkedIn social media button to specific people who might have interest or to the groups.

One of the simplest methods to share with those you are now connected with via LinkedIn is Shareaholic

With over one million downloads, Shareaholic is the simplest way to share, spread, and save interesting webpages via your social networks, email, blogs, IM, and more. Shareaholic is compatible with all major web browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Safari.

When you create or find something of value to your LinkedIn connections, with a couple clicks of the button in your browser, you can share a helpful tip.

Over time your face will be remembered and soon they will look forward to your helpful tips.  Be sure the tips are relevant to THEIR wants and needs and not just your own.

How can I gather the LinkedIn information to my contact list?

It is possible that the reason perfect strangers reach out on LinkedIn and ask for a connection is all about "list building".  With each added contact, more information is known than just an email address.  Are you interested in building a list?  LinkedIn may be a resource.

Note:

  • If you use the generic tools, generic messages and don't make the effort; I won't remember your face and may not respond.
  • If you are trying to conquer the world and change the community and have valuable information/resources to share, then count me in.  I will not only remember your face, I may become an ambassador.

Below you will see photos from those in my network on LinkedIn.

linkedinphotos

We could dive into the questions about why you have a bad photo or are missing a photo.  We could also go deep and ask why you are using a photo from 20 years ago or a photo of a baby.  We could, but we won't.

Who will trust you?  Someone who makes the effort to show their best side?  ... the person who takes the easy way?  Someone who is clever or that person who is serious about their commitment?

What to do:

  1. Invite with a personalized message and do it daily.
  2. Keep your contact list up to date withe export option.
  3. Change your photo to reflect the best of who you are.
  4. Don't limit accepting or making invitations based on whether you believe the person is a potential customer.

My friend Mike will tell you that "everyone is a road or a town".  Don't dismiss people because of what you see on the surface.  There is always more that meets the eye.  (That is not a reason for you NOT to have the best photo posted.)
