Pierce County Library System now sending notices via text messaging

Pierce County Library System customers may now receive notices and contact the Library through text messaging on their mobile phone or device.

With the new service, the library will send text messages to people letting them know when books or other items they have requested are ready for pickup, or when items they have checked out are due or overdue.
In turn, the texting service lets people renew items they have checked out on their Pierce County Library card, or where they may find a book or other item at a nearby Pierce County Library.

The free service extends the public's options to find books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks. Standard text rates apply and the service is available in English and Spanish.

What is the cost of a lead to your business?  How much does it cost your business to gain a new customer or keep a current customer?  How much time, effort and energy needs to be invested to get a great relationship?  If it can be said that everyone has mail, email and a cell phone then would the text messaging be the next best alternative for reaching out?  Even though there are no pictures and the length is so limited?  Seems that if the library can find a benefit, couldn't your business?
